Softball Recap: Buena Park Has No Trouble Against Katella

Buena Park won the last time they faced Katella and things went their way on Friday too. The Coyotes were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Knights. The Coyotes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by six runs or more this season.

Mia Gonzalez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Lily Phillips and Calista Beltran did most of the damage at the plate: Phillips went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Beltran went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Layla Hinojos was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Buena Park's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-8. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Katella, they now have a losing record of 11-12.

Coming up, Buena Park will welcome Valencia at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Coyotes surely won't give up without a fight. As for Katella, they will head out to take on Calvary Chapel at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.9 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of.
