Football Game Preview: Dripping Springs Tigers vs. Medina Valley Panthers

Two dominant signal callers in Chase Ames and Xavier Gonzalez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Dripping Springs Tigers will welcome the Medina Valley Panthers at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Dripping Springs is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Harlan 52-28. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Dripping Springs had a senior duo take command as Jaceton Gotta rushed for 114 yards and one TD on only 14 carries and Cooper Reid picked up 104 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Reid's longest reception was for an impressive 66 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total. James Montgomery did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 104 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Medina Valley took on Harlingen on Friday. The Panthers blew past the Cardinals, posting a 49-7 win. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 177th, while the Cardinals are ranked 562nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Medina Valley, racking up 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Connor Crisp, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Dripping Springs' victory bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Medina Valley, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.

Everything came up roses for Dripping Springs against Medina Valley in their previous matchup back in November of 2017, as the team secured a 41-0 victory. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
