Baseball Recap: New Richmond Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

New Richmond extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 10-14 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 12-11 W against the Walnut Hills Eagles. The Lions have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles, too.

Hunter Ashley was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

New Richmond was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

As for Walnut Hills, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. Their defeat continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

On Walnut Hills' side, J.T. Thornton was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The Eagles are 2-1 when Thornton posts three or more hits, but 2-13 otherwise. Connor Tunning was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Coming up, New Richmond will take on Taylor in a tournament on Wednesday. As for Walnut Hills, they will square off against Little Miami at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
