D.H. Conley suffers third straight loss at home

Recap: D.H. Conley Vikings vs. New Bern Bears

The D.H. Conley Vikings's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of New Bern by a score of 55-53. While losing is never fun, D.H. Conley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 345th, while New Bern is ranked 172nd).

Jussan Wiggins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for New Bern, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wiggins has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Cox, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

D.H. Conley's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-9. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for New Bern, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. D.H. Conley will play host again and welcome South Central, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Bern, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Northside - Jacksonville at 6:30 p.m. Northside - Jacksonville is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
