Joaquin is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. After each having a week off, they and the San Augustine Wolves will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Joaquin's win against Corrigan-Camden wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rams pulled ahead with a 27-26 photo finish over the Bulldogs last Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.

A big part of Joaquin's win came down to the chemistry between Trenton Runnels and his top target Cooper Bragg. Runnels threw for 112 yards and three TDs on only nine passes while Bragg gained 212 total yards and three touchdowns. What's more, Bragg racked up 43 receiving yards, the most he's had since back in November of 2024.
Joaquin was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 219 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 184 rushing yards in ten consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, San Augustine got themselves on the board against Huntington last Friday, but Huntington never followed suit. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 37-0 victory over the Red Devils. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Wolves just coasted through the last quarter.
San Augustine's win came from a few key players Joaquin will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tymorian Cartwright, who threw for 124 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in one score on the ground. Kerrick Burrell was Cartwright's top target, picking up 42 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Joaquin now has a winning record of 3-2. As for San Augustine, they now also have a winning record of 3-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Joaquin has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 240.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like San Augustine struggles in that department as they've been averaging 190 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Joaquin against San Augustine when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 48-13 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
