High school basketball: Class of 2025 five-star prospect Darryn Peterson transfers to Prolific Prep

The 6-foot-5 guard earned third team MaxPreps Junior All-America honors last season with averages of 24 points, six rebounds and four assists per game, helping Huntington Expression Prep (Huntington, W.Va.) to a 20-10 record.

Peterson excelled for Phenom United at the Adidas 3SSB Palmetto Road championship event, averaging 28.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 4.2 steals and 3.0 blocks per contest to guide his squad to the quarterfinals in Rock Hill. The No. 3-ranked prospect in the Class of 2025 according to 247Sports, Peterson earned first team MaxPreps Sophomore All-America honors after averaging 31 points, nine rebounds and three steals in 2022-23. At Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) in 2021-22, he was named to the first team MaxPreps Freshman All-American team after averaging 26.1 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Although Prolific Prep saw a pair of top-ranked prospects transfer out in the off-season as A.J. Dybantsa left for Utah Prep (Hurricane, Utah) and Tyran Stokes moved to Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.), the addition of Peterson along with Texas native Seven Spurlock and Illinois native Rajan Roberts begins the Crew's rebuild.
