Baseball Recap: Highland Park Drops Highest Score of Season Against Follett

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Highland Park). They were the clear victor by an 18-6 margin over the Follett Panthers on Thursday. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by eight runs or more this season.

Zack McClurg was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. McClurg was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Highland Park's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Highland Park let Bryce Giles and Isaac Alcala run wild. Giles scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Alcala scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Highland Park is 2-1 when Giles posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Ruth, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Highland Park's win bumped their record up to 4-5.

Coming up, Highland Park will welcome Dalhart at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Follett, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Highland Park at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
