Softball Recap: Brocton Takes a Loss

Softball Recap: Brocton Bulldogs vs. Gowanda Panthers
Brocton had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-4 to make it ten. They came up short against the Gowanda Panthers, falling 17-8. The Bulldogs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
Paige Miller made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Joleena Doner, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
As for Gowanda, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Gowanda's side, Gracie Eddy and Addison Kota were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Eddy struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Kota tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Eddy went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Kota got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run and four runs.
In other batting news, Gowanda got a massive performance out of Bella Maines, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave Maines a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Bobseine, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs.
Looking ahead, Brocton will look to defend their home field on Monday against Pine Valley Central at 4:30 p.m. As for Gowanda, they will venture away from home to face off against Forestville Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hornets will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight.
