Softball Game Preview: Pocatello Thunder vs. Idaho Falls Tigers

The Pocatello Thunder are taking a road trip to face off against the Idaho Falls Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Pocatello will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

On Monday, Pocatello beat Bonneville 11-8.

The team relied heavily on Azlin Bullock, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jakobi Nebeker, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run.

Blackfoot hit Idaho Falls with a five-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers came up short against the Broncos, falling 9-2. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Alyssa Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Idaho Falls saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shea Salem, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Pocatello's win bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Idaho Falls, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.

Pocatello's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Thunder have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Idaho Falls, though, as they've been averaging only 0.5 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Pocatello continue to outrun the ball?

Everything went Pocatello's way against Idaho Falls when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Pocatello made off with a 10-0 victory. Do the Thunder have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
