Arroyo has gone a perfect 9-0 against Gabrielino recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Knights will head out on the road to challenge the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Arroyo is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 44-6 win over Marshall. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
One reason for the win was Arroyo's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Damian Torres refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Jacob Dominguez got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Gabrielino hadn't done well against South El Monte recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Friday. Gabrielino had just enough and edged out South El Monte 30-28.
Arroyo better keep an eye on Alijah Sheppard. He was instrumental in Gabrielino's win, rushing for 177 yards and two TDs while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Sheppard was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. Marelle Moore Jr. also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Gabrielino was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 233 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Gabrielino, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Moore Jr., who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Arroyo's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-4. As for Gabrielino, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Arroyo strolled past Gabrielino in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a score of 15-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
