Basketball Recap: Amaree Burries' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jacksonville over Sacred Heart-Griffin

Jacksonville and Sacred Heart-Griffin squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Jacksonville had to settle for second. The matchup between the Jacksonville Crimsons and the Sacred Heart-Griffin Cyclones didn't end well, with the Jacksonville Crimsons falling 73-57. While losing is never fun, the Crimsons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 267th, while the Cyclones are ranked 126th).

Several Crimsons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Amaree Burries, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 13 boards. That's the most rebounds Burries has posted since back in February of 2024. Masen Johnson was another key player, going 7-for-14 to rack up 17 points.

Even though they lost, Jacksonville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Jacksonville dropped their record down to 11-19 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Sacred Heart-Griffin, the victory got them back to even at 16-16.

As of now, neither Jacksonville nor Sacred Heart-Griffin have any future games scheduled.
