Basketball Recap: Poston Butte Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Poston Butte was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were beaten by the Mica Mountain Thunderbolts 82-53. The Broncos were not able to make up for their loss to the Thunderbolts from their previous meeting back in December of 2024.

Calvin Kabiro and Devon Villalobos certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Kabiro shot 55% from the field on his way to 14 points and six rebounds, while Villalobos posted seven points and 14 boards. With that strong performance, Villalobos is now averaging an impressive 9 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Rexford Danso, who earned six points and 11 boards.

Poston Butte's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Mica Mountain, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.

Coming up, Poston Butte will venture away from home to square off against Cactus at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Broncos' defense better be ready for this one: the Cobras have averaged an impressive 58 points per game this season. As for Mica Mountain, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 104-84 loss against Tucson High Magnet School on the 12th.
