Basketball Recap: Central Christian Drops Season-High Score on Macksville

Central Christian scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 61-51 to the Macksville Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Mustangs are ranked 25th).

Macksville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Diego Esparza, who went 10 of 17 on his way to 28 points in addition to eight boards and six assists. Esparza's evening made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Grippin, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 16 points and six rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Central Christian and nudges their season record down to 1-4. As for Macksville, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.

Central Christian will take on Caldwell in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Macksville and Stafford will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Macksville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Stafford likes a good challenge.
