Softball Preview: Oberlin Phoenix vs. Lorain Titans

The Oberlin Phoenix will venture away from home to face off against the Lorain Titans at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, Oberlin made easy work of Cleveland Central Catholic and carried off a 23-3 victory.

Larissa Freas was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Freas was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Like Oberlin, Lorain also got a great game from a two-way player: Olivia Charlton. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Those hits were Charlton's first of the season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ja'Ly Cortes, who scored four runs and stole eight bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
