Basketball Game Preview: Grand Junction Central Warriors vs. Montrose Red Hawks

The Grand Junction Central Warriors will venture away from home to face off against the Montrose Red Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Last Friday, Grand Junction Central ended up a good deal behind Palisade and lost 53-39. While the Warriors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 12-8 in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, Montrose earned a 44-34 win over Grand Junction on Friday. Given the Red Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while the Tigers are ranked 150th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Grand Junction Central better keep an eye on Mayce Oberg. She was instrumental in Montrose's win, going 8 of 18 en route to 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of London Schafer, who posted 12 points.

Montrose has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-2 record this season. As for Grand Junction Central, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Grand Junction Central was dealt a bruising 43-13 loss at the hands of Montrose when the teams last played back in January. Can Grand Junction Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
