Eustis is 8-2 against South Lake since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Panthers will host the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Eustis is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Eustis will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Umatilla on Friday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Bulldogs. Considering the Panthers have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Carson Roden looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Eustis got a massive performance out of Brooklyn Powhida, who scored five runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Powhida has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Covino, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5.
Eustis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Umatilla only posted a batting average of .208.
Meanwhile, South Lake gave up the first runs last Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Forest 7-6. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Zoie Rogers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Makiah Palacio, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Zoe Sheffield was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
South Lake pushed their record up to 10-10 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Eustis, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
