Basketball Recap: Elias Schendler's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Basalt over Delta

Basalt suffered their closest loss since February 3, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of the Delta Panthers by a score of 65-62. The Longhorns have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Basalt's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elias Schendler, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 12 boards. Schendler has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Luke Williams, who on his way to 16 points.

Even though they lost, Basalt was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Basalt's loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Delta, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-11 record this season.

Basalt will welcome Fort Lupton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Lupton will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something Basalt surely won't give up without a fight. As for Delta, they will be playing at home against Coal Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Delta's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests.
