Baseball Recap: Wolfe City Drops Highest Score of Season Against Campbell

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wolfe City). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Campbell Indians a 17-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory was nothing new for the Wolves as they're now sitting on five straight.

Casen Pessel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Wolfe City's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Pessel was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February.

In other batting news, Ethan Young was incredible, going 2-for-3 with five RBI and three runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chris Herron, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Wolfe City's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Campbell, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-14-2 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Wolfe City is set to square off against their familiar foe Saltillo at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Campbell will challenge rival Cooper at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
