Basketball Recap: Mountain Vista Beats Chaparral for Their Third Straight Win

Mountain Vista had won two straight games and Kennedy Spellman did her part to make it three on Friday. The Mountain Vista Golden Eagles took down the Chaparral Wolverines 75-57 thanks in part to Spellman, who went 9-for-19 on her way to 33 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The matchup was her fifth in a row with at least 20 points.

Leanna Rivera was another key player, going 5-for-8 to rack up 14 points and seven boards. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2024.

Several Wolverines players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lauren Thompson, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds. Thompson has been hot, having also posted three or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jade Monroe, who went 5-for-10 en route to 16 points.

Mountain Vista's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-8. As for Chaparral, their record is now 13-10.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Mountain Vista will face off against Cherokee Trail at 4:00 p.m. on March 1st. Cherokee Trail is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season. As for Chaparral, they will be playing at home against Denver South at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
