Football Recap: Venice Sets Scoring Season-High Against Palisades + How To Watch

Venice easily dispatched University last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Gondoliers fell just short of the Palisades Dolphins by a score of 56-54 on Friday. On the bright side, the 54- point performance marked the Gondoliers' highest-scoring game to date.

Despite the loss, Venice had strong showings from Aaron Minter, who picked up 248 receiving yards and two TDs, and Bennett Dome, who threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns. Minter was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 62 yards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Palisades to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jack Thomas, who threw for 473 yards and five TDs while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 52 yards. Those 473 passing yards gave Thomas a new career-high. Demare Dezeurn made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Venice has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 28.5 points over those games. As for Palisades, their record now sits at 7-0.

Venice and Palisades should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Gondoliers will square off against Fairfax at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (373 vs. 803). Meanwhile, Palisades (ranked 259th) will meet University (ranked 610th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
