Basketball Recap: Five Straight Road Wins for Arkansas City

Arkansas City's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They secured a 43-38 W over the Newton Railroaders. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Railroaders are ranked 310th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Arkansas City's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kierslynn Waggoner, who went 5 of 10 en route to 17 points. That's the most points Waggoner has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Phillips, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 11 points and three steals.

Arkansas City pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Newton, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Arkansas City will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Eisenhower at 6:00 p.m. on February 4th. Newton will also get a bit of a break before their next match: they'll face off against Andover at 6:00 p.m. on February 4th.
