Basketball Recap: DJ Williams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Charlotte over Mallard Creek

West Charlotte lost against Mallard Creek back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The West Charlotte Lions fell to the Mallard Creek Mavericks 58-54.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was DJ Williams, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Williams is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last seven games he's played. Chase Bryson was another key player, putting up ten points and six boards.

Even though they lost, West Charlotte smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

It was another big night for Jordyn Washington, who went 7 of 14 en route to 19 points for Mallard Creek. The team also got some help courtesy of Troy Griffin, who posted nine points and seven rebounds.

West Charlotte's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Mallard Creek, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season.

West Charlotte didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 49-41 defeat against Victory Christian Center on the 25th. As for Mallard Creek, they will face off against Hopewell at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mallard Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.8 points per game this season.
