Soccer Game Preview: South Gibson vs. Brighton

The South Gibson Hornets are taking a road trip to square off against the Brighton Cardinals at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. South Gibson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.8 goals per game this season.

South Gibson fought the good fight in their overtime game against Crockett County on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 4-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cavaliers. South Gibson's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Landon Brown wasn't going to let Crockett County walk away unscathed as he scored both of South Gibson's goals, bringing his season total up to 17 goals.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Brighton faced off against Kirby on Friday. The Cardinals blew past the Cougars 5-2. Considering Brighton have won six matchups by more than two goals this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Brighton is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 37 goals over those 12 games. As for South Gibson, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-6-1.
