Game recap: South Fort Myers High School Football Team bests Lake Gibson

LAKELAND, Fla. - South Fort Myers (Fort Myers, Fla.) snapped the five-game winning streak of Lake Gibson (Lakeland, Fla.), with a 27-16 victory on Saturday.

After taking the lead on a Justin Hutchins touchdown run in the second quarter, the Wolfpack led 14-3 at the half.

Each side put up seven points during the third quarter, and the fourth quarter began with the margin still at 11.

The result came as a big surprise as the Braves came in ranked No. 46 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Florida, while South Fort Myers was ranked No. 116.



SFM went into the matchup giving up only 16.6 points per game. Lake Gibson's 16 points were well below its season average of 38.8 per game.

The defeat comes as a step back for Lake Gibson, which notched a 35-7 victory over Ridge in its previous outing. The victory was a step in the right direction for the Fort Myers school, which was coming off a 32-29 defeat at the hands of Immokalee in its previous game.
