Soccer Game Preview: Starkville vs. Germantown

Starkville hasn't had much luck against Germantown recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Starkville Yellowjackets will square off against the Germantown Mavericks at 5:30 p.m. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Starkville is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They lost 6-0 to Madison Central. While losing is never fun, the Yellowjackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi soccer rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Jaguars are ranked fifth).

Despite a strong season so far, Germantown has seen their luck take a bit of a downturn recently. They were a single goal away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of Clinton. The match was a 0-0 toss-up at halftime, but the Mavericks couldn't quite close it out.

Starkville's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Germantown, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4-2.

Starkville came up short against Germantown in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 2-0. Can Starkville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
