Softball Game Preview: Crete-Monee Warriors vs. Oak Lawn Spartans

The Crete-Monee Warriors are taking a road trip to face off against the Oak Lawn Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Oak Lawn took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Crete-Monee, who comes in off a win.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Crete-Monee and Thornwood meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 22-9 margin over the Thunderbirds.

Crete-Monee let Ariana Kovacs and Taleeana Ramirez run wild. Kovacs got on base in all five of her plate appearances with six RBI, four runs, and two triples, while Ramirez got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, five runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Ramirez has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Raechel Lindsay, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Crete-Monee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .614. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .516 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Oak Forest hit Oak Lawn with a four-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans fell 8-4 to the Bengals. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Bengals recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Danielle Dempsey was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Crete-Monee's record now sits at 6-12. As for Oak Lawn, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-11.

Crete-Monee might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Oak Lawn when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
