Basketball Recap: Statesboro's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

After a string of ten wins, Statesboro's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 58-49 to the Bradwell Institute Tigers. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Statesboro still got an impressive performance from Ja'Caiden Cone, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 25 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Cone a new career-high in points. Camdyn Wilkerson was another key player, putting up six points and five rebounds.

Leading Bradwell Institute to victory were Christopher Perry and Zi`On Thomas. Perry dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards, while Thomas went 6 for 14 en route to 15 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Stevens, who posted four points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Statesboro's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-2. As for Bradwell Institute, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.

Statesboro and Bradwell Institute should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. Statesboro (ranked 78th) will meet Glynn Academy (ranked 477th) at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Statesboro will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive. Meanwhile, Bradwell Institute will face off against South Effingham at 8:00 p.m. on Friday up 342 places (49 vs. 391).
