Softball Recap: Lowell Has No Trouble Against El Camino

Lowell won the last time they faced El Camino and things went their way on Saturday too. The Cardinals were the clear victors by a 16-10 margin over the Colts. Considering the Cardinals have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaylee Kline made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 4-for-5. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophie Duncan, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Noelia Martinez, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.

Lowell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Camino only managed four hits.

The win made it two in a row for Lowell and bumps their season record up to 8-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for El Camino, their loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lowell will challenge Lincoln at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 11.9 runs per game this season. As for El Camino, they will welcome Jefferson at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Colts are facing the Grizzlies at the right time seeing as the Grizzlies are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
