Basketball Recap: Iola Finds Home Court Redemption Against Erie

There's no place like home for Iola, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They came out on top against the Erie Red Devils by a score of 60-51 on Tuesday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their 28-point performance the matchup before.

Cortland Carson was his usual excellent self, shooting 46% from the field to rack up 27 points and six boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Iola's points. Another player making a difference was Lucas Maier, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Iola smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Erie still got an impressive performance from Reid Duff, who went 11-for-26 en route to 31 points and six boards. Duff's big performance that morning made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Michael Richenburg was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

Iola is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season. Erie's loss dropped their record down to 9-11.

Iola wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 68-59 victory against Riverton on the 28th. As for Erie, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 41-30 defeat against St. Mary's-Colgan on the 27th.
