Softball Recap: Westside Extends Winning Streak to Five

Westside entered their tilt with Pocahontas on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Redskins with a sharp 7-1 victory. That's two games straight that the Warriors have won by exactly six runs.

Mckyna Craig made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vada Watkins, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

Westside pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Pocahontas, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Westside will square off against rival Gosnell at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 2.4, the Pirates 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Pocahontas is set to challenge their familiar foe Highland at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
