Basketball Recap: Wiley Takes a Loss

Wiley extended their losing streak to nine on Friday, dropping them down to 0-9. They had to suffer through a 57-21 loss at the hands of the Kit Carson Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 297th, while the Wildcats are ranked 148th).

Despite the loss, Wiley still got an impressive performance from McKenzie Mapes, who posted 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kynlee Dechant, who earned eight points.

As for Kit Carson, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points on average over those games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Kit Carson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shay Rady, who scored 12 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. What's more, Rady also posted a 67% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January of 2025. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Kent, who had 13 points along with six boards and four steals.

Wiley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-11 defeat against Flagler on the 17th. As for Kit Carson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 46-35 loss against Hi-Plains on the 17th.
