Baseball Game Preview: Steubenville Big Red vs. Zanesville Blue Devils

The Steubenville Big Red will face off against the Zanesville Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Zanesville took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Steubenville, who comes in off a win.

Steubenville took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over Catholic Central. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Big Red considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Heath hit Zanesville with a five-run third inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Blue Devils took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. The Blue Devils haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Zanesville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Mohler, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Steubenville pushed their record up to 11-12 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Zanesville, their loss dropped their record down to 9-14.

Steubenville came out on top in a nail-biter against Zanesville when the teams last played back in May of 2018, sneaking past 4-2. Will the Big Red repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
