Basketball Recap: Smith Valley Piles Up the Points Against Mineral County

Smith Valley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They breezed by the Mineral County Serpents to the tune of 51-10. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 21 points or more this season.

Mineral County's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Raeane Johnson, who posted three points and eight boards, and Caitlynn Sanchez, who put up three points. Jazmin Serrato also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Smith Valley has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.5 points per game. As for Mineral County, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smith Valley will venture away from home to challenge Sage Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sage Ridge will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Smith Valley surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mineral County, they will head out to take on Virginia City at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
