Softball Game Preview: Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions vs. Florida Christian Patriots

The Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions will take on the Florida Christian Patriots at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Immaculata-La Salle is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Ransom Everglades 23-7. The Royal Lions haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Palmer Trinity typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Florida Christian proved too difficult a challenge. They put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 13-1 win. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Shaun Fernandez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

In other batting news, Kayla Diaz was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kianny Gil, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Florida Christian is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Immaculata-La Salle, their win bumped their record up to 5-12.

Immaculata-La Salle might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Florida Christian in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Royal Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
