Baseball Game Preview: Homestead Mustangs vs. Mountain View Spartans

The Homestead Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Mountain View Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Homestead is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.

Homestead's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Santa Teresa, sneaking past 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since March 7th.

The team relied heavily on Andrew Sun, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

Homestead hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Mountain View came into Saturday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Aragon by a score of 4-0 last Saturday.

The result came thanks to Preston Huang's shutout, as he gave up just seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Austin Xu was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. Luke Orrock was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two RBI.

Homestead's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Mountain View, their record is now 10-5.

Homestead might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Mountain View in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
