League recap: Marysville stuns Mesa Verde in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mesa Verde, who took down 811th ranked Mesa Verde, 36-34.

Kyle Worthington and Chad Baptiste provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Marysville. The connection went for 59 yards, the longest such play in Golden Empire this season.

The Mavericks' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Worthington threw for 59 and one touchdown and Christian Garcia had 59 yards receiving. On the ground Garcia chipped in 237 yards.

5-foot-8 quarterback Tim Endicott of Lindhurst is the league leader in passing yards this season with 340. He has also thrown two touchdowns. On the ground, Mesa Verde's Garcia has rushed for 992 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Baptiste. The Dixon star has five catches for 138 yards.

Ronald Barney's team's Garcia is a mere eight yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Capital Christian takes on the Indians. The Cougars are currently in second, while Marysville is in fifth.

Capital Christian's Justice Shelton-Mosley rumbled for the longest rushing play in Golden Empire this season in his game against Dixon last week. Shelton-Mosley ran for 60 yards on the play and finished with 144 on the day as his team beat the Rams.
