Softball Recap: Hill-Murray Comes Up Short

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Hill-Murray and Hastings meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Pioneers fell 4-0 to the Raiders. The game marked the first time this season in which the Pioneers were not able to get on the board.

Elli Petronack spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

Hill-Murray's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Hastings, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hill-Murray will challenge Tartan at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hastings, they will venture away from home to take on South St. Paul at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
