Basketball Game Preview: Mercy Monarchs vs. Duchesne Cardinals

Mercy is 0-10 against Duchesne since January of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Mercy Monarchs will be playing at home against the Duchesne Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. Mercy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season.

Mercy is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Ashland-Greenwood: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mercy blew Ashland-Greenwood out of the water with a 54-27 final score. The Monarchs pushed the score to 38-17 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bluejays had little chance of recovering from.

Soledad Peralta was the offensive standout of the contest as she went 6 of 9 en route to 15 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Brekel, who posted four points along with seven boards and five steals.

Mercy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Duchesne took on Gross Catholic on Tuesday. Duchesne might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Gross Catholic an easy 51-27 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cardinals have suffered against the Cougars since February 16, 2021.

This is the second loss in a row for Duchesne and nudges their season record down to 1-4. As for Mercy, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
