Basketball Recap: Haddam-Killingworth Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Haddam-Killingworth can now relate to. They came up short against the Shepaug Valley Spartans on Tuesday, falling 89-65. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 84-46 back in January.

Shepaug Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Reed Woerner out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 27 points and nine rebounds. Woerner's big performance that evening made it 23 games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was James Kersten, who almost dropped a double-double with 25 points and nine boards.

Haddam-Killingworth has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. Shepaug Valley's win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-0.

Haddam-Killingworth does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Shepaug Valley, they will be playing at home against East Hampton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. East Hampton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Shepaug Valley likes a good challenge.
