Basketball Recap: First Coast Buccaneers vs. Oakleaf Knights

First Coast was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were beaten by the Oakleaf Knights 58-11. While losing is never fun, the Buccaneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 538th, while the Knights are ranked 233rd).

First Coast's loss came despite strong showings from Aray Bell and Halima Saad. Bell posted eight points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, while Saad put up two points.

Oakleaf had a senior duo take command as Jasmin D went 6 of 13 on her way to 17 points and four steals and Makiya Trusel went 7 of 14 on her way to 15 points and five steals. That's the most points Trusel has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of J'Nyla Owens, who had four points and four steals.

First Coast's defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Oakleaf, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8.

First Coast will head out to challenge Bishop Snyder at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bishop Snyder will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something First Coast surely won't give up without a fight. As for Oakleaf, they will square off against Andrew Jackson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oakleaf has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
