Soccer Game Preview: Haughton vs. West Monroe

The Haughton Buccaneers will challenge the West Monroe Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Haughton's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for five straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Haughton fell victim to Byrd and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They came up short against the Yellow Jackets, falling 9-0. While losing is never fun, the Buccaneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana soccer rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked first).

Meanwhile, West Monroe had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 goals) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They never let the Panthers onto the board and left with a 3-0 victory. Considering the Rebels have won nine contests by more than two goals this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

West Monroe has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 49 goals over those 12 games. As for Haughton, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5-3.
