Baseball Game Preview: Nooksack Valley Pioneers vs. Sehome Mariners

Nooksack Valley hasn't had much luck against Sehome recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Pioneers will welcome the Mariners at 4:30 p.m. Nooksack Valley will be strutting in after a victory while Sehome will be coming in after a defeat.

Nooksack Valley came out on top against Sedro-Woolley on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Pioneers took their contest against the Cubs 7-4. The game was the first time the Pioneers have beaten the Cubs on their field since April 19, 2018.

Evan Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Nooksack Valley is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Colby Martin, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Landen Stauffer, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Sehome and Lynden, and Lynden kept the tradition alive. The Mariners fell just short of the Lions by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday. The Mariners have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Sehome's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Nooksack Valley, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-11.

Nooksack Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Sehome in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 11-10. Will the Pioneers repeat their success, or do the Mariners have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
