Softball Game Preview: Streamwood Sabres vs. South Elgin Storm

Streamwood is 0-10 against South Elgin since May of 2019 but things could change on Monday. The Sabres will head out on the road to square off against the Storm at 4:30 p.m. Streamwood has given up an average of 17.5 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Streamwood's offense. They lost 25-0 to Riverside-Brookfield on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Sabres' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, South Elgin had already won 13 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it 14 on Thursday. They never let the Raiders get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Storm might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 contests by seven runs or more this season.

Anna Kiel made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Kiel was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chloe Ricard, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Jenna Sheehan was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

South Elgin hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive matches.

South Elgin's win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Streamwood, their loss dropped their record down to 2-20.

Streamwood suffered a grim 19-1 defeat to South Elgin in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Sabres avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
