Recap: Volunteer Falcons vs. Unicoi County Blue Devils

The Volunteer Falcons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They suffered a tough 70-48 loss at the hands of Unicoi County. While losing is never fun, Volunteer can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 357th, while Unicoi County is ranked 96th).

Leading Unicoi County to victory were Mason Hensley and Jackson Simmons. Hensley dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Simmons scored 26 points along with five rebounds. The matchup was Simmons' 15th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kolby Jones, who scored 13 points.

Volunteer has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season. As for Unicoi County, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-3.

Volunteer will be home for the holidays to greet Daniel Boone at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Daniel Boone has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 337 points over their last five games. Unicoi County will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Hampton at 8:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
