Basketball Game Preview: Westminster Academy Lions vs. Somerset Prep

The Westminster Academy Lions will face off against Somerset Prep on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Westminster Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They breezed by David Posnack Jewish Day to the tune of 89-17. The win was familiar territory for the Lions who have now won three games in a row.

Meanwhile, Somerset Prep came tearing into Thursday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Lions 92-23. Given Somerset Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Chaminade-Madonna is ranked 368th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Westminster Academy better keep an eye on Chardae Rumph. She was instrumental in Somerset Prep's win, putting up 27 points. The match was Rumph's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Isyss Mims was another key player, scoring 17 points.

Westminster Academy has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Somerset Prep, they pushed their record up to 17-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Westminster Academy lost to Somerset Prep on the road by a decisive 58-39 margin when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Westminster Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
