Softball Recap: Midlothian Extends Home Winning Streak to 11

On Thursday Midlothian's undefeated season almost came to an end. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cosby Titans a 1-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-0 back in April.

Not much got past Marlee Gaskell, who gave up just five hits to keep Cosby off the board.

At the plate, Midlothian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Erika Fiege, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Fiege is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Midlothian pushed their record up to 16-0 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Cosby, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.

Midlothian and Cosby should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Trojans will face off against James River Midlothian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (4 vs. 222). Meanwhile, Cosby (ranked 29th) will meet Manchester (ranked 101st) at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Titans 2.8, the Lancers 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
