Preview: Schurr Spartans vs. Westminster Lions

Schurr is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Westminster is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Schurr Spartans will take on the Westminster Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Schurr has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 272 points over their last five matches.

Schurr put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on Montebello with a sharp 49-28 victory. With Schurr ahead 35-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Elias Navarro went supernova for Schurr, rushing for 174 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Christian Breazeale, who rushed for 35 yards and a touchdown.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Schurr, racking up 21 points in total. All those points came courtesy of Andrew Murguia: he added 21 points with seven field goals.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 42-7, which was the final score in Westminster's tilt against Laguna Beach on Friday. Westminster was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.

Schurr's win lifted them to 9-1 while Westminster's loss dropped them down to 7-3.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Schurr has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 190.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Westminster struggles in that department as they've been averaging 177.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.

Schurr might still be hurting after the 33-7 defeat they got from Westminster when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Thankfully for Schurr, Alex Solano (who rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
