Softball Game Preview: Albuquerque Academy Chargers vs. Bernalillo Spartans

Albuquerque Academy is 1-9 against Bernalillo since June of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Chargers will head out on the road to face off against the Spartans at 11:00 a.m. Albuquerque Academy will be strutting in after a win while Bernalillo will be coming in after a loss.

Albuquerque Academy made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Manzano, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Chargers never let the Monarchs get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Chargers.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 18 runs the game before, Bernalillo was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They fell just short of Robertson by a score of 2-1.

Bernalillo saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Calandria Montoya, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was Montoya's first of the season.

Albuquerque Academy now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Bernalillo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.

Albuquerque Academy might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Bernalillo in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
