The Broomfield Eagles will challenge the Regis Jesuit Raiders at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Broomfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Broomfield is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They walked away with a 9-6 win over Arvada West.
James Varela looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Brendan Fritch was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Talan Hutchings was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Broomfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arvada West only posted a batting average of .286.
Meanwhile, Regis Jesuit faced Castle View in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Raiders came out on top in a nail-biter against the Sabercats, sneaking past 9-7. The Raiders haven't had any issues with the Sabercats recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Cade Filleman looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Regis Jesuit let Jace Filleman and Nick Wiley run wild. Filleman went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Wiley got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI. Gavin Cronin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Broomfield is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 17 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Regis Jesuit, their victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-8.
Both Broomfield and Regis Jesuit just can't seem to miss. The Eagles have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Regis Jesuit struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Broomfield took their win against Regis Jesuit in their previous matchup back in May of 2017 by a conclusive 14-4 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
