Basketball Recap: Heritage's Run of Five Straight Wins Now Over

Heritage was the 55-53 winner over Fruita Monument when they last played one another back in January of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Heritage Eagles fell 80-72 to the Fruita Monument Wildcats on Saturday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (68), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Fruita Monument was led to victory by Jhett Wells and Daniel Thomason. Wells went 8 for 16 on his way to 27 points, while Thomason went 10 of 12 en route to 23 points and three blocks. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Wells has scored at least a third of Fruita Monument's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Karson Weddle, who posted 11 points and five steals.

With the loss, Heritage broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-4. As for Fruita Monument, they pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Heritage will take on Columbine at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fruita Monument, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Fruita Monument Wildcats duke it out with the Rock Canyon Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
